CheckMyCCTV support for Videcon HD-IP NVRs

Videcon HD-IPWe’re pleased to announce support for Videcon’s HD-IP NVR product range in the latest version of CheckMyCCTV.

Videcon’s traditional VXH DVRs have always been popular with our customers due to their ease of use, performance, and value for money, and we expect that to continue with their HD-IP range of NVRs.

Sporting the same style of web based configuration, VXH users will feel at home migrating to a High Definition IP solution with little or no extra training.

Both the VXH and HD-IP ranges work seamlessly with CheckMyCCTV, ensuring your customers’ CCTV systems are operational at all times to provide the highest level of service, and saving you time, energy and fuel.

CheckMyCCTV is used by CCTV installers who maintain multi-site retail, government, commercial, and any other unmanned or remote CCTV sites where there is nobody to report faults and CCTV issues.

New Feature: Camera Tamper Detection

CheckMyCCTV Camera Tamper Detection launched

A CCTV system is only as good as the images it is recording. So if your cameras have been tampered with, your CCTV system may be as good as useless if the cameras are not recording the intended target area.

The problem is, how do you know when they have been moved? If the cameras are tampered with the system would carry on recording and the user would be blissfully unaware that their CCTV system is severely compromised. A manual check could be done, but this would be a hugely time consuming exercise comparing a ‘reference’ image against the current image.

CheckMyCCTV already monitors for camera faults, but it now goes one step further and monitors for camera tampering.

How does it work?

The Camera Tamper Detection function in CheckMyCCTV works by taking snapshots from each camera every day at user defined times (usually one during the day, and one at night). These are analysed and compared with images from the previous day, if the new image changes its view by more than user defined threshold, an alert is generated.

Camera Tamper Detection is a semi-automatic check, meaning that although CheckMyCCTV will generate an alert when the image has changes above a certain threshold. It is designed to augment manual camera checks, giving the operator an indication that a camera may need to be investigated further.

What can it detect?

Using the Camera Tamper Detection feature, CheckMyCCTV can now monitor and report when cameras are moved, obscured, covered, or sprayed, using existing network connected CCTV recorders without having to purchase additional equipment.

A typical application for Camera Tamper Detection could be in a shop or retail environment, where cameras are trained on the Till areas, or at entrance/exit doorways of buildings. An alert would be triggered if these important cameras are moved or obscured.

We’re not going to claim that camera tamper detection is 100% accurate, it is designed as an automated ‘first pass’ to give the operator a means of quickly checking whether reported cameras have indeed been tampered with.

 

New Feature: Interactive Map support

We’ve had a busy start to the year, so we’re happy to announce the launch of Interactive Maps for CheckMyCCTV, now it’s even easier to keep a track of the status of all your sites.

By utilising the interactive map function, users can display site locations and corresponding status on a map using colour coded markers. It is easy to locate sites geographically, rather than just from the site tree – useful if you have many sites around the country (or world for that matter), or the operators are unfamiliar with the site locations.

The maps are fully interactive, so by clicking on a marker on the map, CheckMyCCTV software will display the status of that unit. It is also possible to display units grouped by site, customer, or alert type. The map will automatically update and resize so you will always see your sites in the optimum display format.

New Feature: Secondary Network Check

CheckMyCCTV checks that there is a network connection to the CCTV system and will report an alert if the connection fails.

Acting on customer feedback, CheckMySystems has introduced a secondary network check, which checks a secondary IP/Hostname address if the Primary IP address fails or does not respond.

The improved network check gives users a better indication as to whether it is the CCTV system which has an issue, or if there is an issue with the network or broadband connection that the CCTV system is connected to.

A typical Secondary IP address could be another device on the same network as the CCTV system, such as another DVR/NVR or the broadband router.

How does the enhanced network check work?

CheckMyCCTV repeatedly checks network connectivity to the CCTV system, and reports any issues, here are the available combinations with the enhanced network check:

  1. The Primary address passes – No alert indication.
  2. The Primary address fails, and the Secondary address passes – Possible issue with the CCTV System.
  3. The Primary address fails, and the Secondary address fails – Possible issue with the network connection to the site.

Typical issues if both the Primary and Secondary addresses fail could be:

  • Loss of broadband/network connection.
  • A change to the router/firewall configuration.
  • Loss of power on the site.
  • A problem with the network connection on the site.
